ALAMOSA—Patricia (Pat) Schaefer passed away at the San Luis Valley Medical Center on Jan. 25, 2018 at the age of 87 after a short illness.
She was the fourth child born to Burt and Enid Meadows on May 16, 1930. She was married to Robert (Bob) Schaefer for 55 years.
Pat spent her entire life in Monte Vista and lived on the family farm for 67 years. Over the decades she kept the family together with her Tuesday lunches. Children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends were always welcome at her table.
Pat was an avid quilter, producing a quilt for each family member and many friends. She loved to have children in her home, calling their chatter and play “joyous noise”. She had a quick, dry sense of humor, often catching the unaware off-guard, surprised that such wise cracks were coming from such a little old lady.
Pat is survived by her three children Lynn (Ray Sanchez) Widger of Longmont, Colo.; Glenda Archer and Mike (Kim) Schaefer, both of Monte Vista. Pat’s nine grandchildren are Leslie (Don) Swallow, Leah (Ryan) Bernard, Kristin (Daniel) Stambaugh, Traci (Steve) Chos, Ryan Archer, Stephanie Schaefer, Brady Schaefer, Mitchell (Lyndsay) Schaefer and Meredith (Carlos) Juarez. Also surviving Pat are 11 great grandchildren. Two siblings, Lucille Schultz and Jim Meadows, also survive.
Her husband and parents, sister Joyce Criswell, son-in-law Charles Archer and granddaughter-in-law LaDonna Schaefer, preceded Pat in death.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018 at the Rio Grande Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Monte Vista. Internment followed services in the Monte Vista Cemetery followed by Pat’s last Tuesday lunch at Dos Rios.
